Luke Koeferl is an artist and printmaker from New Orleans who works primarily in relief printmaking. His focus has centered on exploring the emotional resonance of place, particularly the natural and cultural artifacts of south Louisiana. His work attempts to personify and create a portraiture of place and moments, communicating universal themes and feelings of longing and playful drama. Rooted in whimsical sketchbook work , his ideas evolve through a long process of selection and experimentation. Images are cut in reverse before being meticulously hand-printed. He often uses a reduction block print technique, where different layers are carved from the same block, whittling away the block as the printing process continues.
